One walk. One officer. One country.
Sixty seconds of sidewalk that show what paper never can.

Walk the film

01 · The idea, as we read it

A job description can list the duties.

Only a walk can show the person.

Seven qualities, read out like a posting. Seven moments on one stretch of sidewalk that prove them. Our job is to make every line of that paper feel lived in.

02 · The director

Stefan
Szary

“I’m a proud Canadian director, and I make confident, gritty films that inspire belief in the realness behind them.”

Stefan Szary

RecognizedCannes Lions · Clios · D&AD

Stefan builds an instinctive kind of cinema, carried by movement, texture and raw emotion. He films in intense conditions, and frames every shot with intent.

His work has an energy you can feel on screen, and a way of turning every project into a strong visual experience, where form becomes as expressive as substance.

His signature is bold editing and a textured image he fully owns: grain, experimental filters, organic treatments and in-camera effects woven into the storytelling. A different eye, complementary to Koloc's DNA. More instinctive, more current, resolutely distinctive.

03 · The work

Stefan's
selected work.

Recognized at Cannes Lions, the Clios and D&AD. Start with the reel, then his latest film, for the Canadian Armed Forces.

04 · The brief, answered

Five asks.
One director.

Straight from your director brief, criterion by criterion. Each answer links to the work that proves it.

01

You asked for

Canadian.

Born in Calgary, raised in Vancouver, now raising a family in Quebec's Eastern Townships. His latest film is for the Canadian Armed Forces, and his reel is built for Canadian brands like Ski-Doo, Can-Am, BRP, CCM and Sport Chek, very often in Canadian winters. He knows what minus twenty does to a crew, a lens and a face.

02

You asked for

Emotionally driven, non-dialogue performances.

Stefan's work is almost entirely wordless. Emotion travels through breath, eyes, gesture and rhythm, never through lines. Förena and Ski-Doo Your Life are built on exactly what Foot Patrol needs: a face that tells you everything while the body keeps moving.

03

You asked for

A collaborative style, including RCMP representatives on set.

His most recent film is for the Canadian Armed Forces: a national institution with its own uniforms, protocols and people. Brand sets like BRP's put specialists in the blocking too. We will run Foot Patrol the same way: RCMP advisors in prep, in rehearsal, and in a dedicated seat beside Stefan at the monitor.

How we work with the RCMP

04

You asked for

Experience with non-professional talent.

Riders, runners, real people: most faces in Stefan's work are not actors. His method is built for them. Tasks instead of emotions, short takes, a camera that waits for the real moment instead of forcing it.

05

You asked for

Technically detailed, choreographed scenes.

Vehicles at speed, camera cars, drones, snow and dust in the same frame. A one-take walk with a K9, a horse and a pipe band is choreography first, and choreography is where Stefan lives. The blocking for Foot Patrol is already drawn, right below.

The walk,

07 · Canada Street

One street.
Every Canada.

A single stretch of sidewalk that reads as a microcosm of the country. Lived in, never an ad set. The regions arrive through weather, wardrobe, signage and the faces in the background.

What we scout for

  • 250 to 300 m of continuous sidewalk, with facades we can dress end to end.
  • A side street mid-block to stage the overturned car and the cruiser out of sight.
  • Storefronts we can re-sign: bilingual, regional, period-neutral.
  • Open sky at the far end. The formation and the super need air.
  • Full traffic control and a municipality used to film crews.
  • Base camp within 200 m for the horse trailer, the K9 unit and the band.

Regional nods along the walk

  • AtlanticA fish and chips counter, lobster traps by a doorway.
  • QuébecBilingual signage, Pharmacie · Pharmacy. A steeple at the end of the block.
  • PrairiesA hardware and feed store, a grain co-op sign.
  • NorthAn outfitters window, fur-trimmed parkas in the background.
  • WestMountains closing the street, a haze of wildfire season.
  • CitiesA jerk chicken shop, a corner café, five languages on one block.

As a Montréal company working in both official languages, bilingual signage and French-language authenticity are native to us, not an add-on.

08 · With the RCMP

Built with the RCMP,
not just for it.

Authenticity is a production department on this job. Here is how RCMP representatives sit inside the process, from the first meeting to the last take.

  1. 01 · Prep

    Advisors in the room

RCMP consultants join creative prep from award. Every beat gets a procedure check: K9 tactics, first response, evacuation, uniform and hair protocol.

  2. 02 · Rehearse

    Blocking with the units

A rehearsal day on location with the K9 handler, the Musical Ride and the Pipe and Drum band. Handlers set the timing; camera and talent adapt.

  3. 03 · Shoot

    A seat at the monitor

A dedicated authenticity seat in video village with a direct line to Stefan, and a kit check before every setup. Nothing rolls that an advisor would correct later.

  4. 04 · Review

    Sign-off, beat by beat

RCMP review folded into the agency edit reviews, so approvals stay inside your post schedule to the December 18 ship.

What the RCMP brings

  • Consultants for authenticity and regulation
  • K9 and handler, with insurance for the canine unit
  • Uniforms and serving officers
  • RCMP vehicles
  • Red Serge rights and licensing
  • Musical Ride horse
  • Pipe and Drum band

Per 72andSunny production bid specs

Animals, handled right

  • Humane society representative on set
  • Handler-led acclimatization to camera, crowd and smoke on rehearsal day
  • Water-based smoke only, tested with the handlers first
  • No pyrotechnics near the horse, ever
  • RCMP asset calls consolidated into one shoot day

Beat 05 · Indigenous partnership

The smudging scene is marked FPO in the script, pending consultation. We agree, and we would go further.

We propose engaging an Indigenous cultural advisor at award, so the Elder, the protocol, the medicines and the framing are shaped with partners before we lock the shot. If the community asks for changes, the film changes.

09 · Music

From pipes
to pulse.

A bagpipe cry and a tight snare open a traditional march, which morphs into a driving modern track, and finally strips down to one steady heartbeat. Emotional, never saccharine.

On set

Whoever composes it, we shoot to it. A temp at the agreed tempo plays from rehearsal day, so Maya's stride, the band and the horse lock to the final bars.

Original score

Original composition, with the option to sample or rearrange a public-domain march. Traditional RCMP pipes and drums against modern instrumentation.

The drop

At "Step forward" the pipes peel away and only Maya's beat remains. The loudest moment of the film is the silence around her stride.

10 · Two days, one walk

The shoot,
in daylight we have.

Mid-November gives us about nine and a half hours of light. The plan protects the golden-hour finale, keeps RCMP units to a single day, and rehearses everything that moves the day before.

Rehearsal day · in prep

Choreography

  1. Full walk at tempo with stand-ins, camera path marked
  2. K9 and handler blocking, cruiser cover move
  3. Horse acclimatization: camera vehicle, smoke, crowd
  4. Stunt rehearsal: overturned car, candy glass, the run
  5. Timing pass on all eight stitches

  5. Beats 00 and 01 · boots and tilt in low warm light
